A simple, precise, rapid and accurate HPTLC method has been developed for the estimation of dexamethasone in bulk and pharmaceutical dosage for silica gel precoated aluminum 60 F254 plates, (20 cm x10 cm) with 0.25 mm thickness. These was carried out using ethyl acetate: chloroform (8:2v/v) as mobile phase. The chromatographic scanning was carried out at 254nm. The Rf (±SD) values were found to be 0.38±0.05 for dexamethasone. The linearity for analyte was in the range 100-500 ng/band for dexamethasone with correlation coefficients, r2= 0.9996. The method was validated for linearity, accuracy, precision, LOD, LOQ and robustness. The percentage recovery obtained for dexamethasone was in the range of 99.28-100.13% respectively. The proposed method was optimized and validated as per the ICH guidelines.
